My Secrets to Glowy, Gorgeous Skin
If there is one thing I’m obsessed with, it’s beautiful skin. My grandmother had the most flawless skin well into her old age and she had a few secrets that I have incorporated into my own skincare routine. Skin is so important to me because when we look good, we feel good. And when we feel good, we create more success in our lives. Ultimately the way we treat ourselves and our bodies is crucial for our lives and our businesses.
I get a lot of questions about the products I use, and what my regimen is like, so I thought I’d pull it all together in a blog post for you ladies. Here’s the thing: I do not believe we have to go under the knife to feel beautiful. I know that’s a radical idea today. I know many people will disagree. I know some of you may even be pissed at me for saying that. But I’m just being real. I have nothing against anyone who does injections, or surgeries, but I have never done a cosmetic procedure and I plan to embrace my skin and age gracefully. I am all about preventative measures like good health and good products, but that is as extreme as I get. I’m okay with a few lines on my face. We’re human, right?
I will preface these suggestions with saying my skin is on the dry-side, and I am not prone to acne, so my products may not work for you. Or they just may rock your world. But I can promise that the health rituals will work for everyone. PS – I linked each product for you, so you can click right on them if you want to try anything out yourself.
Lemon water. I believe great skin starts on the inside, so I make sure I am fully hydrated at all times. I add lemon to my water because it detoxifies and basically supercharges your water. I can tell a major difference in my skin when I’ve forgotten to buy lemons! I drink half my body weight in ounces of water per day. I also make sure I have at least 8-10 ounces of water as soon as I wake up in the morning, before my coffee. Think about it: your body has not had water since you went to sleep the night before (that’s about 7 or 8 hours of dehydration). Drink up! And get ready to glow.
Tons. of. veggies. I am a vegetarian, so many of my meals are veggie-based. I love to “eat the rainbow” to make sure I’m getting lots of vitamins, and one added bonus is beautiful, radiant skin. Red or yellow bell peppers are some of the best sources of Vitamin C, the antioxidant necessary for creating collagen, which keeps our skin firm. Broccoli is also packed with nutrients that aid in the protection of our skin from certain types of cancers. Leafy greens are key to that dewy look, so get them in! If you have a hard time finding time to cook, grab a fresh or cold-pressed green juice once or twice a week to give yourself a nice big dose.
Detox baths. I take a detox bath a few times a week. Essentially, it’s a hot bath with Epsom salts to help draw out toxins. I take a huge liter of Smart Water (with lemon) in with me and soak for 20 minutes. You don’t want to stay in longer than 20, because the toxins can be re-absorbed into your body. So set a timer, put on some jazz, and use the time to meditate, brainstorm, read, or do whatever helps you relax. Here’s a photo of me post-bath. You’ll sweat for a good 15 minutes afterward, and it feels ahhh-mazing.
Chanel Sublimage moisturizer. Okay. I know this is super expensive. But OMG, it is so worth it. Ever since I started using this, twice daily (morning and evening) I cannot even begin to express the level of glow up on my face. I literally get stopped in the street by strangers asking me what makeup I’m using – when I’m not even wearing any. The benefits I’ve noticed, outside of looking insanely radiant, is that my skin looks even, super glowy, lifted, and supple. I use the Texture Supreme because my skin is dry and that is the heaviest level, but there are 3 different types, so purchase appropriately. Ladies, believe me, if there is one product to invest in for your beauty routine, this is it. Plus, it’s so rich that you truly only need the smallest bit and it lasts forever, so you are getting quite a bang for your buck.
Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Gel Cleanser. You know when you wash your face, but it just doesn’t feel totally squeaky clean? That was happening to me with every face wash I was using until I got my hands on this stuff. It basically accelerates cellular turnover so your skin looks super fresh (almost like you just got a facial) every time you use it. I use it with my Clarisonic and I come out of the shower with the shiniest, cleanest face ever. Obsessed.
Chanel Sublimage L’Extrait Instant Recovery Treatment. If you really want to splurge, this stuff is fabulous. It’s basically an oil that has a high concentration of all the incredible benefits of the Sublimage line. I was told by my sales associate to only use it every other day MAX because it’s so powerful. You take one pump (no more than that), warm it between your fingers for a few seconds, and pat into your skin. I put my moisturizer on top. Go to sleep, and wake up looking incredible. It has completely evened out my skin tone and has made it looks super smooth and soft. If you’ve been feeling like your skin has been through the ringer for any reason, treat yourself to this magical elixir. I promise it will not let you down!
MDNA Skin Rose Mist. I will be honest: I was a little leery of Madonna’s skincare line. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I am a massive Madonna fan. I have adored her since I could talk. But I wasn’t quite sure if she’d able to pull off skincare. One of those “stay in your own lane” assumptions. Boy was I wrong! I am addicted to this rose mist and use it constantly. It works to refresh your makeup, set your makeup, as a toner, or anything you just want to wake up your face.
And that is it! I don’t have a crazy 16-step process for my skin. I just treat my body well, and invest in the best products I can afford that I know work.
