I Started a Girl Gang! Introducing: Slay Baby Collective
It was a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon in early fall, and I found myself strolling through Chelsea with the city at my fingertips. I had responded to all my emails and had no meetings for the rest of the week. I had the money and resources to do whatever I felt like doing. Freedom! What should have been an exciting day quickly turned sour as I realized….something big is missing.
Although I absolutely adore my work and feel so incredibly lucky that I get to do what I do, I would by lying if I said I didn’t feel like I was missing that human connection. I truly got what I dreamed of: a creative, fulfilling job that inspires the hell out of me, that allows me to work from home, in a gorgeous apartment that I decorated to perfection. I design my days. I cook all my meals from scratch. I can fly to a new city on a whim for a meeting or for fun. But I am alone, almost all of the time. And for someone who loves to help and nurture others, this is a problem. Although I spend much of my time on social media connecting with my readers, there is only so much we can do in a comment box or through email.
I decided to make a list of things that make me feel like I’m at a “high vibration” and things that make me feel like I am at a “low vibration.” And something that kept coming up for me was the fact that I thrive on human energy. Even if I can’t physically be with people all the time, even hearing their voices makes me feel alive. Whether it’s a live event or a group coaching call, I love being with people. I love talking to people. I love supporting people. I love encouraging people. And from what I have observed, many women feel the same way.
I spent most of 2015 on the road for my book tour and media appearances. Sprinkled throughout that travel was a series of group coaching tele-workshops that I ran for small groups of women. The friendships, business partnerships, connection, and support that I witnessed happening under my wing was truly powerful. The fact that I was able to create space for women to feel encouraged and loved is something I do not take lightly.
So after that day in Chelsea, I began racking my brain and asking myself some big questions. How could I take that mission and make it a full-time endeavor? How could I be consistent in creating a live environment for women to connect and uplift each other? How could I create a GIRL GANG?
As much as I loved the idea of launching another group coaching workshop, the truth is, those end. And not everyone can afford private coaching. As much as I love the idea of doing events, they take a lot of planning and when they’re over, much like the workshops, everyone is left with this sense of excitement and nowhere to put it. I knew I had to design something that was free and ongoing. No strings attached. No sales pitches. Something that was accessible to everyone.
As the saying goes, “create things you wish existed,” so I did. I am so thrilled to introduce you to The Slay Baby™ Collective! A collaborative, supportive, judgment-free, girl power focused club for women who want to uplift themselves and others. A place for us all to evolve together. I took major inspiration from the Riot Girl movement of the 90’s that I was excitedly a part of. The days where I was first learning about feminism, falling in love with girl bands, and finding my way as a young woman in the world. I want Slay Baby to have that same fresh, hopeful, and exciting feeling.
Here’s a look at the official manifesto I created for Slay Baby™, and then I’ll get to what it will look like on a daily basis and how YOU can be a part of the movement.
We’re kicking things off with a Facebook group I created where members can meet, introduce themselves, and visit daily for inspiration, support, and positive vibes. I will moderate the group to keep things fresh and “on brand” with the Slay Baby movement. This will not be a self-promotion marketplace or a place to talk about politics or any of the draining and negative topics we’re seeing everywhere else. This is NOT just for girl bosses!
This is a space for all women to come together and spread positivity. This is a #GIRLPOWER zone focused on building each other up. We’ll share our dreams, creative endeavors, and ideas. We’ll help each other feel more confident. We’ll help each other crush our fears. We’ll also use the space to gather every Thursday evening when Slay Baby Radio is live on the air. To join the group, please send a request on Facebook and be sure to answer all questions. We require all new members to answer the questions in order to keep the space safe. Please allow 1 business day for approval.
I have an expansive, long-term vision for Slay Baby, and I know this movement will evolve and take shape as we go. So far, I’ve hosted Slay Baby meet ups in Chicago, New York, and London, and I have so many more planned. I want to connect my girls in person. I want to create a space for real, human connection – and hugs! We live our lives in front of screens and we are missing out greatly. We need support and we need it in real life.
I hope you’re all as excited as I am for this brand new girl gang as I am. I am putting out a call for you all to join me and help craft this movement into something major. Your participation is what will make this magical. I cannot wait to see where it goes!
With love and girl power,
